Karin Taylor is a Toronto based artist bringing wood burning (pyrography) mixed media art and ink and watercolour travel paintings to the OOAK show. Her pyrography art is inspired by plants, nature and the people in her life, and evokes joy, fun and connection, featuring fun colours and bright foils. She has spent the last five years creating workplace humour illustrations featuring a beloved snail character through the Daily Snail Mail. In 2023 she began woodworking and pyrography and developing the style you see today. Taking what she admired in traditional pyrography work, and melting it into her bright, bold, cartoon style. She sources all the wood for her pyrography art pieces mainly from scraps, lovingly dubbed “garbage wood”, and creates everything from the woodworking, to the pyrography art, painting and foiling to the wood finishing. She also brings colourful ink and water landscape and cityscapes, inspired by the places she has been, and the places she dreams of visiting.
