The Martian Metalsmith
Marianna Lewis
Fredericton, New Brunswick
Meet me at G-32 D
Marianna Lewis is the Jamaican metalsmith and contemporary artist behind The Martian Metalsmith. As a child, Marianna whose nickname is Mar, would pretend that Mars was her planet and attempted to convince people that she was a Martian. Keeping with this playful memory, the Martian decided to name her business The Martian Metalsmith. Created in 2023 The Martian Metalsmith specializes in handcrafted jewellery pieces that are eye-catching and hold your attention with its complex simplicity. Each piece of jewellery carries its own story, adding greater value and deeper meaning. The tagline, “out of this world jewellery, for out of this world people,” was born with the aim of encouraging people to embrace their own distinctive allure and beauty every time her jewellery is worn.
Upon deciding to become a professional metalsmith and artist, Marianna moved to Canada and enrolled at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. There she completed the Foundation Visual Arts Certificate Program, Jewellery/Metal Art Diploma program, and the Advanced Studio Practice Program, all with honours. Marianna’s work explores personal storytelling and natural elements through the mediums of precious metals and semiprecious stones. In 2025, Marianna's work was showcased in The Earring Show, an annual group exhibition put on by the Craft Council of British Columbia that highlights contemporary jewellery design and sheds light on the connection between craft and culture. Later in 2025, Marianna won the Brigette Clavette Award - Sheila Hugh Mackay Scholarship in Graduate Studies for excellence in her studies.
