Cherry blossoms have always held a special place in my heart — delicate, fleeting, and full of grace. I pressed these petals in spring and created this cyanotype in summer, using sunlight and water to bring the image to life. Their translucent nature made this large piece a challenge, but also a joy. In the distance, Mount Fuji rises beneath a clear sky — a symbol of peace and quiet wonder.

One Tree, Many Leaves

In this cyanotype, different kinds of maple leaves come together—Canadian and Japanese, big and small, intact and imperfect. Yet, they all contribute to the beauty of the piece. Just like in society, no matter who we are—rich or poor, strong or weak, men or women—we all have a role in making the world a better place.

In this pressed flower piece, I portray the moment when the Little Prince carefully prepares to leave his tiny planet. True to his thoughtful nature, he plans his departure with care — raking out his active volcanoes, cooking his breakfast on one, and pulling out the last baobab sprout. Then, with quiet tenderness, he places the glass dome over his rose, protecting her before saying goodbye.

Inspired by Pongo and Perdita from One Hundred and One Dalmatians, it isn’t just about their iconic spots—it’s about love, loyalty, and connection. Avocado peels, often discarded, find new purpose here, much like the overlooked moments that shape our bonds. Just as Pongo and Perdita’s story is one of devotion and adventure, this piece reflects the timeless companionship between humans and their dogs—a love that, like the deep blue of the print, remains steadfast and true.

This interplay highlights how nature’s robust elements can beautifully intertwine with grace, reflecting the multifaceted nature of identity.

In this cyanotype, flowers are arranged outside the vase, while usually they are supposed to be inside. As a flower lover, I delved into Chinese traditional flower arrangement and Japanese Ikebana seven years ago and have since enjoyed both arranging flowers and collecting various vases. Inspired by the elegance of Delftware, this cyanotype merges the art of floral arrangement with the graceful flow of the vase and the deep, rich hue of cyanotype blue.

To create this piece, I carefully sorted and arranged all my tiny dried botanicals, meticulously placing each one. While the cyanotype process itself is relatively quick, the preparation is far more time-consuming. Collecting, drying, pressing, and storing the florals, as well as painting the cyanotype chemicals and arranging the botanicals, all require significant effort.
