I’ve always loved to make marks. When i was 6 years old, I ran up and down the stairs and halls of our six floor apartment building with my younger sister drawing with crayons as we ran. We got caught. Our mother made us go up and down those halls and walls with a bucket of soap and wash every mark off them. When we were finished, we returned to our apartment to find the walls there covered with paper as high as we could reach. Mom said “You want to draw on walls? You can draw as much as you want here.” I have been making marks ever since.

Where it's At
Bruce Trail off Dyers Bay Road - Bruce Peninsula National Park - Tobermory - Ontario
Where it's At
nostrils fill
earth and air
spongy moss
greens everywhere
in the trees
color bursts
fiery finish
feeding thirst
maples nurtured
oaks nursed
proud display
sacrificed works
transitory moments
beginning and ends
you find yourself
on the path
immersed in the beauty
of where it’s at

Wetland Walkway
Boardwalk at Cyprus Lake at Bruce Peninsula National Park, Tobermory , Ontario
water rises
water falls
edge of lake
adventure calls
so distracted
by the view
miss the danger
where feet
follow through
rocks are slimy
roots they grip
ankles slide
feet get tripped
danger lurks
while beauty brays
like a siren
look this way
wooden highway
hovers wide
gaze at the lake
safely stride
get distracted
by the view
the path is safe
under you

Crunch - Crunch - Crunch - Crunch
Bruce Trail off Dyers Bay Road - Bruce Peninsula - Tobermory - Ontario
The fresh smell of fall leaves brings life to my footsteps
they’ve shed their collective crowns
once ablaze with fiery color
maples, birches, walnuts,
all bare arms and fingers now
reach to the sky
stretching
for any warmth
getting the juices flowing
wrapping onto rocks
roots tendril out
clinging
seeking purchase
trip wire obstacles
peek out
from cast off adornments
once topping
hearty soldiers
of the wood
underneath,
the small
gather
burrowing
building bunkers
away from the path
of foragers
announced as they pass by
crunch, crunch , crunch, crunch
gorging for the coming fast
winter winds are coming
so much more needs to be done

Are you Coming?
Cypress Lake - Bruce Trail - Bruce Peninsula National Park - Tobermory - Ontario
fade into the grass,
wade through the tall grasses
of a once proud lake
tiny nest like tunnels
arched warren passageways
crisscrossing
well worn pathways
traverse
for the community of the small
inquisitive hunters
foragers
among the tall slender blades
watch your step now
mind your foot falls heavy
who can we find?

Caress
Grotto Trail - Cyprus Lake - Bruce Trail - Bruce Peninsula National Park - Tobermory - Ontario
Winter Wonderland Splendor
dripping
caramel, liquorice and coconut flow
bathe the escarpment
undaunted
neapolitan frozen fingers flow
slowly melt
caress everything
downhill
over and around
everything encountered
over the fallen
past
the standing
stalwart stouthearted
soldiers of the shade
determined
to thwart the advance
blocking
melting rays
of life’s giving engine

Vanguards of the North
Winter Roars in Like a Lion - Cove at the Grotto - Looking North
Vanguards of the North
like a lion,
winter roars in.
soft snow
encasing the cliffs edge
crystallized
becomes hard slick ice
proud pines deform,
warped,
flexing against the roar,
adamantly clutching
frozen rock.
A vanguard
enduring
natures force.

Slide into the Lake
Georgian Bay spits
spraying icy licks
windswept
exposed shore
glazing
topping
limestone
frosting
oblivious enticing
slippery sliding
battered unwitting
into
frigid undulating
swallowing gaping
insatiable
wide open mouth.

Lost in the City
An amazing place right in the middle of a big city .A tiny bit of nature and escapism. The Humber River Recreational Trail near Eglinton Avenue in Toronto. I would cycle my bike along here or go for runs and see the wildlife and all the unexpected surprises you find along the way. I saw a reindeer here wolves and coyotes.

Blanket
First Snow - Dorcas Bay - Lake Huron - Tobermory - Ontario
The beauty and purity of the first virgin white snow on the shores of windy North Lake Huron
it is over
the sun emerges from it’s hiding spot
high above the angry clouds
bathing everything
in a warming calm light
crusted soft ivory icing
smothered deluge
pure snow
drowning the shores
exposed wind swept lake
tall pines and cedars
struggle
bending
creaking
carrying their weight
at their feet
a silent blanket
carved in mounds and grooves
etched evidence to the rage
fury of winds that followed
after the sky
ever burdened
emptied itself
onto the world below
it is over
from underneath
from inside
they emerge
basking in the warming peeking light
absorbing
natures new dress

Jupiter over Venus and Dorcas Bay
Dorcas Bay, Lake Huron, Tobermory, Ontario
At night,
while we sleep,
before,
the dawn breaks,
Nature frolics free.
She dances.
She prances.
Far,
from prying,
glances.
This,
is how she be.

Eagles Nest - Flat Rock
A Favourite section of the Ottawa River for fishing and sunning.
once light,
swirling,
fleet of foot,
the river
slowly thickens.
coagulating.
steadily setting jelly.
collecting, piling,
against submerged, emerging rock
impeded molecules,
amass atop the other.
locked,
frozen into place.
icy fingers reach.
midas touch.
infecting.
crystallised created crust.
pushing through,
past these frozen walls,
the river cries,
let me through.

Hibernate
Cheryl Spotswood's "Red Trail "forest snowshoe trail
Hibernate
behold,
the lump of toads.
a knot.
they lay silent.
beneath the limbs,
that held the umbrella,
of freshly fallen snow.
motionless.
they lay silent.
beneath the blanket,
of freshly fallen snow.
motionless.
they lay silent.
warm,
beneath the fallen fall leaves,
that lay beneath,
the freshly fallen snow.
radiating.
a pocket of warmth.
motionless.
silent.
waiting.
for the spring’s sun.

melting.

The Oracle's Chair
Yellow Trail - Clem Trail - Ottawa River - Westmeath - Ontario
They stood silent,
while the snow fell,
slowly covering
where she once sat.
Remembering her.
Smiling.
Sharing.
Solutions to questions
some asked.
Curious to see,
who would pass by next,
she basked
in the glory
around her.
The memories,
the snow,
stopped falling,
covering all
that was
once before.
Refreshed.
The pair moved on.

addressing the group
Hank pointed his big fat beak
at Oswald and said
C’mon lads
there is something off
about him

looked toward Hank
agreeing
by their silence
Only Mary
Only Mary
looked back at Oswald
head slumped
in disappointment
Questioning
Why?

Look Out
The view looking down river from 2 chair lookout off Fitzgerald Island in the Paquette Channel on The Ottawa River
look out
they reach out
once
downy velvet
leaf adorned
summer soft limbs
would
gently caress, tickle
yield
acquiesce
passers by
now
winter hardened
razor tipped
skin piercing
fingers
dare you
come near
look out
come see
what babbles
below
our snow capped
edge
