Lamps Design Studio — Deisy Sosa
I’m Deisy Sosa, the designer behind Lamps Design Studio, a Toronto-based studio where natural materials, colour, and light come together in a tactile and luminous dialogue.
Originally from Venezuela, with a background in advertising, marketing, and graphic design, I create pieces inspired by the textures of nature, the rhythm of architecture, and the vibrant cultures that have shaped my journey.
At the heart of my practice is a distinctive banana paper made in Brazil from banana leaves and stalks harvested in protected reserves. Its abundant fibres and subtle irregularities give each lamp a unique texture. Alongside it, I also work with carefully selected fabrics and Japanese paper, using each material independently to create one-of-a-kind lamps and sculptural lighting pieces.
Colour flows through each design like a quiet current, intensifying the natural tones of the fibres and revealing their layered textures. When illuminated, the paper glows from within, casting soft shadows and a delicate radiance that shifts with the surrounding space. Light becomes both material and atmosphere, bringing warmth, depth, and a sense of wonder to every piece.
More than lighting, each design is a functional work of art: a meeting point between nature, colour, craftsmanship, and light.
